Real TSA & FAA rules to know before you pack
- Liquids over 3.4oz (100ml) must go in checked baggage, not your carry-on -- TSA's 3-1-1 rule caps carry-on liquids at that size, one quart bag per passenger. Medications and baby formula are exempt from the size cap. Full rule and exemptions →
- Packing a power bank or spare camera battery? It must go in your carry-on -- every power bank counts as a "spare" lithium battery and is banned from checked luggage entirely, even in a checked bag you're also carrying on other items in. Full rule →
- Carrying medication? Solid medication (pills, tablets) has no TSA quantity limit and needs no declaration. Liquid medication is exempt from the 3.4oz cap but must be declared to a TSA officer at the checkpoint. Full rule →
