Cookie Policy

This policy explains the cookies and similar browser storage (local storage, session storage) TravelersCopilot uses, and the choices you have about them.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. We also use two closely related browser storage mechanisms — local storage and session storage — for some of the same purposes; this policy covers all three together.

The cookies and storage we use

  • Essential — account sessions. If you create an account or log in, we set a session cookie so you stay signed in. Without it, the site can't remember that you're logged in.
  • Essential — visitor identifier. We set a first-party visitor identifier (no personal information in the value itself) so we can recognize a returning visitor and resume a trip you started earlier. This lasts about a year.
  • Functional — wizard session and theme. While you're using the trip planner, we use your browser's session storage to keep track of a single planning session (this clears when you close the tab). We use local storage to remember your light/dark theme choice. Neither leaves your browser.
  • Analytics — RudderStack. RudderStack, our analytics/tracking provider, sets its own cookies (for example, to identify your anonymous visitor ID and session) so we can see how people move through the wizard and draft-review pages and fix what isn't working.
  • Analytics — Counterscale. We also use Counterscale, a self-hosted analytics tool, for basic pageview counts. Counterscale is cookie-free by design — it doesn't set any cookies or store anything in your browser.
  • Experimentation — GrowthBook. When we're testing a change to part of the site, GrowthBook may use local storage to keep which version you see consistent across your visit.

Third-party cookies

Of the above, RudderStack's cookies are the only ones set by a third-party service rather than directly by TravelersCopilot. We don't use cookies for third-party advertising.

Managing cookies

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking the essential session or visitor-identifier cookies will affect core functionality, like staying logged in or resuming a trip you started earlier. Blocking the analytics cookies won't affect your ability to use the site.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the tools we use change. If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
