Why American Isn't in the Exact Calculator

American's own overweight structure is real and documented, but the source research only has it as "a comparable tiered structure -- a 70lb bag can run $200+ in overweight fees alone" for the 51-70lb tier, and "higher tier, similar range" for 71-99.99lbs -- not a clean published number the way Delta's $100/$200 or Frontier's flat $129 are. Showing a specific dollar figure for American here would be false precision this tool's own sourcing doesn't support, so it's listed with that caveat instead of a number.

Oversize Is a Separate, Stacking Fee

A bag exceeding 62 linear inches incurs a separate oversize fee, typically $75-$200 depending on the carrier, on top of any overweight fee already owed. American's own documented example: a 70lb, 70-inch bag, both overweight and oversized, can run $200+ in overweight charges plus $150+ in a separate oversize charge. This calculator flags that risk when your entered size exceeds 62 inches, but doesn't attach an exact oversize number, since the source range ($75-$200) isn't broken out per airline.
