Alentejo is Travelog's home for Évora, inscribed by UNESCO in 1986 under criteria (ii) and (iv) as an outstanding urban ensemble representing Portugal's golden age after the country's 1755 earthquake reshaped so much of the rest of the country, layering Roman, Moorish, and Renaissance history within one walkable town.

Évora earned its 1986 UNESCO listing for something distinct from Lisbon's, Sintra's, or Porto's own recognitions, a genuinely layered urban ensemble where Roman-era ruins, Moorish-influenced streets, and Renaissance architecture all coexist within one compact, still-inhabited town.
