Central Bohemian Region

Central Bohemian Region is Travelog's home for Kutná Hora, inscribed by UNESCO in 1995 for a medieval town built on silver mines that, at their 13th-century peak, produced roughly a third of all the silver in Europe, funding the Church of St Barbara and the Cathedral of Our Lady at Sedlec.

Kutná Hora earned its 1995 UNESCO listing three years after Prague and Český Krumlov, and for a genuinely different reason than either: not architectural continuity or undisturbed small-town development, but the genuine economic weight of Europe's richest silver mines, which briefly made this modest town wealthy enough to rival the capital itself.
